Professional Profile

Joseph (Joe) Rompala joined the firm in 2006 and practices in the areas of energy and utility law, civil litigation, and appeals. As part of the energy and utility team, he regularly represents the firm's clients in a wide variety of regulatory matters ranging from an individual customer's dispute with a utility to cases setting rates for Indiana water, sewer, and electric utilities. He also works closely with Indiana Industrial Energy Consumers, Inc. (INDIEC) an organization advocating for sound energy policy to ensure the reliable and cost-effective provision of energy to industrial customers in Indiana. Joe is actively involved in the firm's appellate practice, playing a role in a variety of cases before state and federal appellate courts.

Joe is an active member and leader of the Indiana State Bar Association's Utility Law and Appellate Practice Sections. He is also a member of the Lewis Kappes Management Comittee.

Prior to joining Lewis Kappes, Joe served for two years as a law clerk to the Indiana Supreme Court.

Practice Areas

Joe has participated in numerous rate cases and other ratemaking proceedings, and the state’s regulated water and wastewater utilities. This work has included issues such as rate of return, cost of service, and rate design. In addition, as the Legislative Director for Indiana Industrial Energy Consumers, Inc. (INDIEC), he has broad experience representing INDIEC in legislative matters as well as non-ratemaking regulatory proceedings.

In addition, he has substantial appellate experience.
